Drifter on the Texas Trail

17-year old Salvador Jesus Gonzalez sat handcuffed to a table in the dimly lit basement of the Dallas Police station. Having been falsely accused of a felony assault, Salvador faced twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary and saw only one way out: he had to run.

So run he did, in the dark of night, entering the dangerous underbelly of the city of Dallas. He followed unmarked trails that crisscrossed the Trinity River to Fort Worth, maneuvering through the seedy world of predators and ex-convicts. Still being pursued, he jumped on a bus headed north on 287, hoping to get lost in the wide open plains of the Texas Panhandle.

But while he trekked through Texas, Salvador discovered another side of life: a loose knit group of people involved in a profession as old as mankind, carving out a niche of the American dream.

And so the story begins in the streets of Dallas. Salvador's story. The Drifter on the Texas Trail.
